The principles of therapy

• Combination therapy

  kills more effectively
  
  shortens therapy
  prevents emergence of resistance:
  INH/RIF>EMB>Strep>PZA

• bactericidal phase and a sterilizing phase

  cidal phase: months 1 and 2
  
  sterilizing phase: months 3 through 6

• Treatment must be for a least six months

• Never add a single drug to a failing regimen
