10. Pennsylvania Hospital Nursing Collection, 1876-1995.
Council for Nursing Education, 1920-1927 (MG 3.4,
16 file folders)
At the start of the 20th century, recruiting graduate nurses
was a challenge faced by most hospitals. Daniel Test, Superintendent
of Pennsylvania Hospital in the early 1900s, served as chairman
of a committee to carry out the task of recruiting student
nurses. This series consists of Dr. Test’s correspondence
with other members of the committee regarding their organization
and work. A brochure outlining a national plan for recruiting
student nurses prepared by the American Red Cross is included.
