Portrait of Samuel Coates (1748-1830) by Thomas Sully. Coates
became a member of the Hospital's Board of Managers in 1785,
and continued serving as a Manager for forty years until his
advanced age necessitated his stepping down. He served as
the Secretary of the Board of Managers for 26 years, and as
the President for 13 years. Today this painting hangs in the
Pine Center Building.
