The Ralph Thomas Taylor Award is presented on special occasion to CPE students who
demonstrate exceptional insight and creativity in the leadership of inclusive worship.
The award was established in 2006, in memory of Staff Chaplain Ralph Thomas Taylor,
who was a UPHS CPE Resident and Adjunct Chaplain before accepting a staff position
with the Department.
Chaplain Taylor is remembered as a warm friend, a gifted chaplain, and a brilliant and
dedicated student of ministry and of life, who spoke of his HUP colleagues as family.
His talent went hand in hand with a most generous spirit, and he many times traveled
from Yale Divinity School to work overnight on-call shifts for our Department as a
volunteer.
The award recognizes one of Chaplain Taylor’s many contributions: his extraordinary
eloquence in leading worship in this interfaith setting.
