Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

PALS Initial Provider

The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

PALS Recertification

This recertification course utilizes small group learning stations to review current concepts in the management of critically ill infants (see description under PALS Initial Provider Course).  Students must hold a current or recently expired PALS card (less than one month) to be considered for the recertification course. Contact the Life Program Administrator if you have questions regarding PALS recertification.

Heartcode PALS

HeartCode PALS completes the American Heart Association’s HeartCode portfolio, offering healthcare providers a self-directed learning option that delivers training needed to recognize and prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. The course is completed in two steps: Successfully complete the Part 1 cognitive portion of the program including patient scenarios and multiple choice exam, and Successfully complete skills practice and a skills test with an AHA PALS Instructor.
